Introduction.

Hi!
We are Rui, Óscar, Laura, Clara and Zaira. We are from Lugo and study ESO 1 at Saint José school. During this school year we have worked very hard to make a project about Australia. We hope you'll like it!

History and language.

The history: Humans are thought to have arrived in Australia about 30,000 years ago. The original inhabitants, who have descendants to this day, are known as aborigines.
The aboriginal population was about 300,000.
Capitan James Cook was a Brisitsh explorer, navigator and cartographer, he reached the south eastern coast of Australia on 19th April 1770. His expedition became the first recorded that europeans have encountered. Australia's eastern coastline victoria produced more than one-third of the world's gold
The language: All the Australian population can speak English very well because this is the oficial language. However, other languages apart from Englis are also valued. In fact, more than 15 per cent of Australians speak other languages in their houses. Australianns speak more than 200 languages: Italian, Greek, Cantonese, Arabic, Vietnamese and Mandarin.

The government of Australia is a federal parlamentary constitutional monarchy. The prime Minister is Tony Abbott

The Australian currency is the Australian dollar.

The landmarks of Australia are:

Festivities

Most workers in Australia have around 12 national and state public holidays. These include:
*New year's Day, on 1 January every year.
*Christmas, on 25 December.
* Easter, between late March and late April each year.
*Boxing Day, after Christmas day.
*Australia Day, on 26 January.

Food.

The most typical food in Australia is a dessert, his name is pavlova! Pavlova is a cake with cream, fruit and meringue.
